Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Going for an impressive 13th consecutive victory, the 14th-ranked Virginia Commonwealth Rams will take on their cross- town rival Richmond Spiders at home in an Atlantic 10 Conference showdown at the Siegel Center. VCU extended its win streak to 12 straight after the Rams absolutely dominated the George Washington Colonials, 72-48, at home on Tuesday. VCU is a perfect 7-0 in A-10 action, and owns a healthy 9-1 record at the Siegel Center. Richmond comes into Saturdays match having won two of its last three games, but the Spiders easily could have taken all three of their most recent matches. The Spiders crushed Davidson (89-63), then dropped a close contest to No. 22 Dayton (63-60), and then beat up on Duquesne (86-55) on Wednesday. They are 11-9 on the season with a 4-3 mark in A-10 play. These two rivals have met 71 times on the floor before, with VCU owning a commanding 45-26 all-time series advantage over Richmond. The Rams have won each of the last four meetings against the Spiders, and own a 25-12 mark at home. Richmond put on a dominating performance against Duquesne on Wednesday, as the Spiders opened with a crushing first-half in which they shot 60.7 percent from the floor to open up a 49-27 lead at the intermission. There was no looking back after that, as the Spiders finished the game shooting 53.6 percent from the floor. ShawnDre Jones led the charge for Richmond with 27 points, connecting on a near-perfect 7-of-8 from the free-throw line and 4-of-10 from 3-point range. Kendall Anthony contributed 16 points to the winning effort, while Terry Allen chipped in with 11 points. The Spiders attempted 30 shots from beyond the arc in the game, and made 13 of them. Until fairly recently, Richmonds offense wasnt very special. The team still averages a pedestrian 65.2 ppg this season on 47 percent shooting from the floor, but the Spiders have exploded in their last few games, netting at least 70 points in three of their last four outings. Anthony leads the charge for Richmond this season with 16.0 ppg, followed by Allens 11.8 ppg mark and T.J. Clines 11.3 ppg. Allen pulls down a team-high 5.4 rpg this season, and Jones has dished out a team-best 58 assists. Its been a strong defensive effort that has helped Richmond as well. The Spiders rank third in the A-10 in scoring defense, holding opponents to a mere 59.8 ppg. VCU and George Washington battled it out in the first half of Tuesdays conference matchup, with the Rams owning a slight advantage at halftime. But a cold Colonials squad in the second period allowed the Rams to open up a large lead for the win. George Washington netted just 19.2 percent of its field goal tries in the second frame, and missed all 11 of its 3-point attempts. VCU hit on 48.6 percent of its shots to pull way ahead. Terry Larrier came off the bench to net 15 points to pace the Rams, while Jequan Lewis chipped in with 13 points and Mo Alie-Cox collected 10 points with eight rebounds in the victory. Treveon Graham netted seven points in the teams win over GWU, and that was all the Rams would need from their leading scorer. Graham currently leads VCU in scoring at 16.7 ppg this season - ranked fifth individually in the A-10. Melvin Johnson is the only other Ram to average a double-digit scoring figure this season at 13.1 ppg. But VCU has used a bevy of role players to gain an offensive advantage, as the Rams rank second in the conference in scoring offense with 74.9 ppg on 43.3 percent shooting. Graham also leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 boards per outing, while Briante Webers 84 assists and whopping 72 steals are the most on the squad. Swingman Tim Hardaway Jersey . UCI President Brian Cookson said Wednesday the commission will investigate allegations "that the UCI has been involved in wrongdoing in the past -- allegations which have done so much to hurt the credibility of the UCI and our sport.INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Motor Speedway officially opened for the month of May with a chaotic road course race that started with a wreck, saw Canadian James Hinchliffe and the mayor of the city injured by flying debris, and, finally, Simon Pagenaud celebrate a fuel-mileage victory. Pagenaud won the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis on Saturday, the first IndyCar Series race on IMS road course, by stretching his fuel the final 29 laps. The Frenchman was one of several drivers to gamble on gas, and he took the lead when Oriol Servia had to stop with four laps remaining. Pagenaud managed to make it to the finish for his third series victory despite having to keep an eye on his mirrors. Ryan Hunter-Reay was second and Helio Castroneves third on his 39th birthday. "Man I didnt know what we were asking for, but we made fuel," Pagenaud said in Victory Lane. "The fuel saving was amazing. It was nerve-wracking. I was worried about RHR coming back, and I didnt know what Helio was doing here. I dont like racing off throttle." Sebastien Bourdais and Charlie Kimball rounded out the top five. Hinchcliffe, of Oakville, Ont., was taken from the track on a stretcher and transported to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion after he was hit in the head with debris. A replay appeared to show debris from a car in front of him flew into his cockpit following a restart. IndyCar said hell have to be re-evaluated before hes cleared again to drive. Preparations begin Sunday for the Indianapolis 500, with qualifying scheduled to begin next Saturday for the May 25 race. IndyCar policy in the past has been to hold a driver with a concussion out of the car a minimum of seven days. Andretti Autosport said EJ Viso will be the standby driver for Hinchcliffe. "Im a little stiff and sore and Id love to be back in the car tomorrow, but I suppose I should probably let the doctors make that decision," Hinchcliffe said in a statement. Hunter-Reay said he drove by Hinchcliffes car and couldnt figure out what happened. "I was actually next to him on track and all of a sudden debris went everywhere and he slowed up," Hunter-Reay said about his teammate. "It was something that happened in front of him and he was hit." The race began with a violent wreck when pole-sitter Sebastian Saavedra stalled on the standing start. He was hit by multiple cars, and debris struck Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard as he waved the green flag. Saavedras car siimply didnt go when the lights went out and, after Hunter-Reay frantically darted around him, Saavedra was clipped by Carlos Munoz and then hit hard from behind by Mikhail Aleshin.dddddddddddd "We just followed protocol at the start," Saavedra said. "As soon as I released the clutch, it went from 11,000 rpm to zero. This should not have happened, unfortunately." The initial hit from Munoz didnt seem too bad, but Aleshins direct hit sprayed debris all over the track, sending spectators and track workers standing along the wall scrambling for cover. Saavedra was seen in his cockpit with his arms in the air anticipating a potential collision as cars tried to weave their way around his stalled KV Racing car. He was visibly upset after the accident as he talked to his team on his pit stand. He had won the first pole of his career -- in part because Hunter-Reay had his two fastest laps disallowed for causing a caution in Fridays qualifying -- and was looking for a strong finish at the famed race track. "Man, we had an opportunity to be at the front of the pack in this amazing place. We wanted to bring it home in the same place," he said. "To not even get a chance because of a freaking electrical thing ..." It had many drivers complaining about the standing starts, which have been problematic since IndyCar began using them at some tracks last season. The incident damaged several cars one day before teams begin practice for the May 25 Indianapolis 500. "I think IndyCar has had like two good standing starts since we started them last year," said driver/owner Ed Carpenter, who saw Mike Conway have to take his car to the garage for repairs after the accident. "Havent been a fan, still not a fan." Drivers also grumbled about the way race control was restarting the races, with the leader having to use a late restart zone. Graham Rahal said he was victimized when he was run into from behind by Juan Pablo Montoya. "These restarts are pretty stupid. You cant see back there because the rear wings are so big, and the officials, we need to work with them to try to change this because theres going to be a lot of accidents," Rahal said. "I said the restart before, I said to my dad, Somebodys going to get hurt out here because you cant see. "They need to let the leader go earlier. Right now, the way it is, theyre trying to be like NASACAR and this isnt NASCAR. We cant just bump-draft each other." Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '
